Prep Time: 3 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

gin
sweet vermouth
campari
orange slice
lemon twist

Instructions:

While the traditional recipe calls for 1-1-1 proportions, the campari is too bullying, and I've found that 3-2-1 proportions (gin, vermouth, campari) make for a drink with subtler character.

Shake up 4.5 oz gin, 3 oz. sweet vermouth, and 1.5 oz. campari. Serve in a chilled cocktail glass and drop in a cross-cut slice of orange. (And if blood oranges are in season, it would be criminal to not use one.) Rim and then squeeze a lemon twist over the surface.
