Prep Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

3 oz whiskey
1-1/2 oz cream sherry
1-1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
3 oz orange juice
3 oz cranberry juice
whole strawberry
fresh mint
seltzer

Instructions:

While Dale De Groff’s Belmont Breeze calls for simple syrup and 7-Up, that cocktail is too damn sweet. This Chance house variation on Dale’s great recipe--served annually at our Belmont Stakes Happy Hour--is a little less sweet, a little more crisp.

Mix and pour over ice into two collins glasses and then top each one off with two ounces of seltzer. (Add a bit of simple syrup or top with 7-Up, if you’d like it sweeter.) Garnish with a lemon twist, a strawberry, and a sprig of mint. When it comes to booze, you don’t get much more underrated than whiskey and sherry, yet they join forces in this most crisp and refreshing cocktail. This is a lovely late-day cocktail, and even people who claim not to like whiskey will love it.
